LaView Security: What Are They?
LaView is a budget security camera manufacturer that sells primarily through Amazon. They focus exclusively on video surveillance — IP cameras, PoE NVR systems, and Wi-Fi cameras — at prices 40-60% below Ring, Arlo, and Nest. But budget cameras come with trade-offs, and in 2026’s crowded market, those trade-offs matter more than ever.

|---|---|---|
| Very cheap | 4K cameras under $100, complete NVR kits under $500 | You get what you pay for — build quality reflects price |
| Local storage | NVR systems store everything locally — no subscription required | If NVR is stolen/destroyed, footage is gone |
| 4K resolution available | Sharp footage for identification at this price point | Night vision and low-light performance lag behind premium brands |
| PoE wired option | Reliable wired connection, no Wi-Fi issues | Requires running Ethernet cables — more complex installation |
| No subscription required | Local storage means $0/month ongoing costs | Cloud backup is extra if you want off-site redundancy |
LaView Weaknesses
| Problem | Impact | What Competitors Do Better |
|---|---|---|
| No security system | Cameras only — no alarm, no sensors, no monitoring, no siren | Abode, Ring, SimpliSafe include full alarm systems |
| App quality | LaView ONE app has mixed reviews (3.5★ App Store), connectivity issues reported | Ring/Abode/Nest apps are polished and reliable |
| AI detection limited | Basic motion detection — no reliable person/vehicle/package differentiation | Ring, Nest, Arlo offer sophisticated AI object detection |
| Brand longevity risk | Small company — if they shut down, cloud services and app support disappear | Ring (Amazon), Nest (Google), Abode have corporate backing |
| Night vision quality | IR night vision is functional but noisy compared to premium cameras | Reolink, Lorex offer better low-light at similar prices |
| No smart home integration | Limited Alexa/Google support, no HomeKit, no security system pairing | Abode supports HomeKit + Z-Wave + Zigbee |
| Support concerns | US-based but limited support hours and resources | Ring/SimpliSafe have 24/7 support with large teams |
Cameras Are Not a Security System
This is the most important distinction to understand. LaView sells surveillance cameras — they record what happens. A security system prevents and responds to what happens.
| Feature | LaView (Cameras Only) | Abode (Security System + Cameras) |
|---|---|---|
| Siren/alarm | ❌ | ✅ 95dB+ built-in |
| Door/window sensors | ❌ | ✅ Wireless sensors |
| Motion detection alarm | ❌ (notification only) | ✅ Triggers full alarm |
| Professional monitoring | ❌ | ✅ Optional $20/mo |
| Cellular backup | ❌ | ✅ Stays online if Wi-Fi cut |
| Geofencing auto-arm | ❌ | ✅ Arms when you leave |
| Smart home hub | ❌ | ✅ Z-Wave, Zigbee, HomeKit |
| Crash & smash protection | ❌ | ✅ Cloud-based |
| Camera integration | ✅ (cameras only) | ✅ Cameras + alarm + sensors |
| Insurance discount | ❌ (cameras don’t qualify) | ✅ 5-20% discount |
Bottom line: A camera records a burglar breaking in. A security system stops the burglary, alerts you, alerts the police, and provides evidence. If your budget is truly limited, a $199 Abode Smart Security Kit with free self-monitoring provides vastly more protection than $500 worth of LaView cameras.

Who Should Consider LaView
| Scenario | LaView? | Better Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Need pure surveillance on extreme budget | ✅ Maybe | Reolink (better quality, similar price) |
| Want a wired NVR system under $500 | ✅ Maybe | Reolink or Lorex (better night vision, AI) |
| Need home security (alarm + monitoring) | ❌ No | Abode — complete system for $199 |
| Want cameras with smart home integration | ❌ No | Ring, Abode, or Nest cameras |
| Need reliable app and support | ❌ No | Any major brand (Ring, Abode, Nest, Arlo) |
| Commercial/business surveillance | ✅ Maybe | Hikvision or Swann for commercial grade |
Our Verdict: 2.5/5 — Skip It
LaView cameras are cheap, and that’s about all they have going for them. In 2026, Reolink offers better cameras at similar prices with superior AI detection and app quality. And if you want actual security (not just surveillance), a complete system from Abode or Ring costs the same or less than a LaView NVR kit while providing alarm, sensors, monitoring, and smart home integration.
The only scenario where LaView makes sense is if you need a large wired NVR system purely for recording (business, large property, parking lot) and your budget is under $500. For everything else, spend your money on a real security system.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is LaView a good security camera brand?
LaView is a budget brand — acceptable for basic surveillance but inferior to Reolink, Lorex, and major brands in AI detection, app quality, night vision, and long-term support. For the same money, you can get better cameras or a complete security system.
Does LaView require a monthly subscription?
No — LaView’s NVR systems store footage locally with no subscription. Their Wi-Fi cameras offer optional cloud storage. However, “no subscription” also means no professional monitoring, no alarm system, and no emergency response.
Can LaView cameras work with a security system?
LaView cameras don’t integrate with any major security system. If you want cameras that work with an alarm system, look at Abode Cam 2, Ring cameras, or SimpliSafe cameras — they integrate directly with their respective alarm platforms.
LaView vs Reolink — which is better?
Reolink wins in almost every category: better AI detection (person/vehicle), better app (4.2★ vs 3.5★), better night vision (ColorVu options), wider product range, and similar pricing. If you want budget NVR cameras, choose Reolink.
What’s the cheapest way to actually secure my home?
Abode’s Smart Security Kit ($199) with free self-monitoring is the cheapest complete security solution. It includes an alarm hub, keypad, entry sensor, and motion sensor — plus smartphone alerts, geofencing, and smart home integration. Add an Abode Cam 2 ($35) for camera coverage. Total: $234, $0/month.
Are LaView cameras secure from hacking?
LaView’s cloud and app infrastructure is smaller than major brands, which can mean slower security patches. Their NVR systems (local-only) are more secure by default since footage doesn’t leave your network. For maximum camera privacy, consider cameras with HomeKit Secure Video (HKSV) through Abode or Apple-compatible cameras.

Growing up with Law and Order and CSI shows taught Isabelle Landau one thing: if people back then had high-quality home security systems, those series would have been way shorter. In our modern world, technology helps us keep burglars away easily, and this is what Izzy studies and writes about: alarm systems, home security, protection systems, and more.

deceived says
After a long runaround I was told that Laview Net was not compatible with my system. Yet when you go on their page you find this as part of their description: “Safeguard your home or business on a budget with quality, affordable HD 1080P video surveillance. For owners of older analog systems, our kit makes switching over a breeze – simply plug your existing wiring into our brand-new, high resolution cameras for an instant upgrade in image quality! Remote viewing is easily accessible using our free downloadable LaView Net app. Live, work, and travel securely with LaView’s exceptional 24/7 protection.” This is what you see but then you are told, after much run around, that you can not use LaView Net app. It will not connect because of something on their end. And they wont fix it. Instead they tell you to download Laview Patrol, which is not on the playstore or zooms or stays on. Or Laview mobile, which is not a laview app and you can not see any playback because it is frozen constantly. Then you are told basically oh well…
