Hawk Home Security Review 2026: Texas-Only, 36-60 Month Contracts, ~$45/Month for Alarm.com Hardware You Can Buy for $199 Without a Contract

Hawk Home Security is a Texas-based alarm company serving Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio. They offer professionally installed, monitored security systems — but in 2026, paying a regional dealer for opaque pricing and long contracts makes less sense than ever. Here’s the full breakdown.

The Dealer Model Problem

Hawk operates as a regional alarm dealer — they don’t manufacture equipment or run monitoring centers. Here’s how the business model actually works:

What Hawk Tells YouWhat Actually Happens
“Free professional installation”Equipment cost built into 36–60 month contract payments
“24/7 monitoring included”Outsourced to a wholesale central station ($2–5/account)
“State-of-the-art equipment”Same Honeywell/DSC panels you can buy for 60% less online
“Customized security solution”Sales commission drives system size, not your actual needs
“Local Texas company”May sell your contract to a national consolidator (Brinks, Guardian)

Other Texas Security Options

If you specifically want a local Texas provider with in-person support:

ProviderCoverageNotes
Smith ThompsonTexas (Dallas/Houston/SA/Austin)$16.95/mo monitoring — cheapest TX option
Point SecurityTexasFree install, but Brinks/Alarm.com backend
ADT (Pro Install)Nationwide incl. all TX$28.99–59.99/mo, professional option

But for most Texas homeowners, a modern DIY system like Abode delivers better protection at half the cost — with no contract, no installer appointment, and smart home integration that regional dealers can’t match. Check current Abode pricing →

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Hawk Home Security legitimate?

Yes, Hawk is a legitimate Texas security company. They’re a regional dealer that installs equipment from major manufacturers (Honeywell, DSC) and outsources monitoring to wholesale central stations. The service works — the question is whether it’s worth 2–3x the cost of DIY alternatives.

Does Hawk require a contract?

Yes. Like most regional dealers, Hawk typically requires 36–60 month monitoring agreements. Equipment costs are subsidized through these monthly payments. If you cancel early, expect an early termination fee (ETF) based on remaining months. See our contract cancellation guide for strategies.

Can I use Hawk equipment with another monitoring company?

Possibly. If Hawk installs a standard Honeywell or DSC panel, services like Alarm Relay ($8–12/mo) or Alarm Grid ($10–25/mo) can monitor existing panels. You’ll need the installer code, which Hawk may or may not provide.

Is Hawk better than ADT for Texas?

They’re similar — both are professional install with contracts and high monthly costs. ADT has better brand recognition, more monitoring centers, and now offers a no-contract Self Setup option ($24.99/mo). For most Texans, DIY systems like Abode beat both on price and features.

What happens to my Hawk system if I move out of Texas?

Since Hawk only operates in Texas, you’d likely need to pay your ETF and leave the hardwired equipment behind. This is a major disadvantage vs. portable DIY systems that move with you anywhere. Factor this in if you might relocate within 3–5 years.

Does Hawk work during Texas power outages?

Most professionally installed systems include battery backup (4–24 hours) and cellular communication. However, during extended hurricane-related outages, a system with long battery life and cellular backup is critical. Abode and SimpliSafe both offer ~24-hour backup with cellular communication included.

I am glad I came across this article. I had been considering Hawk Home Security but after further research it might not be the best for my family. I like the app feature but the upfront cost deters me.
