Vivint Review 2026: $45/mo + $1,000+ Equipment — Premium Smart Home Security or Overpriced Contract Trap?

Last updated: March 2026

Vivint is the premium play in home security — professional installation, AI-powered cameras, and deep smart home automation. It’s also the most expensive option on the market by a wide margin. After NRG Energy’s acquisition in 2023, Vivint has doubled down on the “luxury smart home” angle. Here’s whether it’s worth it in 2026 — and when you’re better off elsewhere.

Who Should Actually Buy Vivint

ScenarioRecommendation
You want the absolute best camera hardwareVivint (but consider Reolink 4K + Abode for 1/5 the price)
You refuse to install anything yourselfVivint or ADT (but most DIY systems take 15 minutes)
Money is truly no objectVivint gives you the most polished experience
You want HomeKit integrationSkip Vivint → Abode is the only option
You’re renting or move frequentlySkip Vivint → Abode or Ring (wireless, portable)
You want no monthly feesSkip Vivint → Abode free plan
You want the best valueSkip Vivint → Abode at $199 + $0/mo
Budget under $1,000 for 3 yearsSkip Vivint → Abode, Ring, or SimpliSafe

Vivint Cancellation: What to Expect

This is where Vivint gets ugly. If you cancel before your equipment financing is paid off (42-60 months), you owe the remaining balance in full. On a $1,200 equipment package with 42-month financing, cancelling at month 12 means you owe ~$857.

There’s no early termination fee per se — but the equipment financing functions as a de facto long-term contract. Read the fine print before signing.

For contract-free alternatives, see our guides on Abode (no contract, ever) and Ring Alarm (month-to-month).

FAQ

Is Vivint worth the money in 2026?

For most people, no. You can get 90% of Vivint’s functionality from Abode or Ring at 1/3 the 3-year cost. Vivint’s premium is justified only if you specifically want 4K AI cameras and refuse to self-install.

Can I use Vivint equipment without a subscription?

No. Vivint requires an active monitoring plan ($29.99+/month) to use the system. Without it, the hub and sensors don’t function. This is unlike Abode, which works fully on the free plan.

Does Vivint work with HomeKit?

No. Vivint supports Alexa and Google Home but has no HomeKit integration. If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, Abode is the only major security system with native HomeKit support.

How do I cancel Vivint?

Call 800-216-5232. You’ll owe any remaining equipment financing balance. There’s a 3-day cooling-off period for new customers. After that, expect to pay out your equipment loan in full.

Is Vivint better than ADT?

Vivint has better technology (cameras, app, smart home). ADT has better brand recognition and a wider service network. Both are overpriced compared to DIY systems. See our Vivint vs ADT comparison for the full breakdown.

What happens to Vivint equipment if I move?

Vivint offers a “move program” where a technician reinstalls your system at your new home (fee varies). But you can’t DIY it — the equipment requires professional removal and reinstallation. Compare this to Abode, where you literally unplug the hub and stick sensors to new doors with adhesive.

The system is great when all devices are “connected” and working. Too bad this doesn’t last long. Power outages cause the doorbell camera to go offline, sometimes taking dozens of tries to reconnect. The garage door controller / monitor goea offline as well sometimes during power outages and I’m unable ro reconnect it. Then, spontaneously, after anothe power outage it will stary working again. The system is highly dependent on the quality and signal strength of your wireless router. Since changing our wireless router for home wifi, the devices are slightly more stable, but it is frustrating trying to reconnect them when they do stop working. You can do the exact same “reset” process 19 times, then, on the 20th it will actually work. Also, the motion detector on the door bell camera picks up wind and rain, but not always actual movement from people.

Just had a slimy Vivint “sales rep” at my front door to attempt to sell me a bundle w/AT&T…since Xfinity is “so bad & expensive”. He insisted that AT&T Fiber – which is the ONLY way you’re going to get anywhere near 100+ meg, WAS available in my neighborhood. He KNEW this for a fact…because HE had it in HIS neighborhood only 6 miles away from me…WHAT A DUFUS!!! So just to make him look even MORE stupid & slimy than he already was, I got a phone & called AT&T on speakerphone, to order Fiber internet – which of course, we were both told promptly it was NOT available here. (I have well over 3 decades in Gov IT experience…so obviously I already knew it is NOT here, & probably will NOT be in the near future)
BUT…that still didn’t stop him from still trying to get me to sign up…I guess I do have to give him a bit of credit for his chutzpah.
I would NEVER, EVER, get service from this company now, if THEY paid for the service!!!

This is the last company I would ever recommend. They clearly know their salesmen are lying but have done nothing to stop them. That shows a culture without integrity. Anything for the sale. I can’t get out of my contract now but will cancel the minute I can and will be placing a warning sign under theirs on my property to warn others

Had my system installed. Same month started having problems. The system kept freezing up and would not respond. This would go on for 6months I am fed up with this. They could not fix the problem. I told them I’m not paying for it anymore until it was fixed. Now its 8monrhs later and nothing but calls from them wanting payment. I keep explaining to the caller and still nothing. WAY TO GO VIVANT!!!!!
MY ADVICE IS DONT GET THIS!!!!!

Bad Choice!!! Problems with equipment and after multiple tech visits. Which we had to argue against being charged for their techs coming out. WE FELT we should not be charged for their faulty equipment failing Fed up. Decided to cancel service and though they did not provide the service we signed up for they want us to buy out the remaining months of our contract or we have the option to sell it to someone. Who would sell a terrible service to even an acquaintance? Not us! Waiting for them to email our contract. I’ll be forwarding it on to our attorney. I would rather pay his legal fees than give Vivint another penn! Horibble people!!!

Yeah good catch, it has changed frequently over the years. Those who understand what the BBB really is (paid reviews essentially) know that it doesn’t always reflect the true company or product. The BBB is a paid (and very profitable) corporation; not a government entity as many think.

Total crap!!! We’ve had this system since January and have had nothing but one problem after another. Our outdoor camera notifies us by cell phone dings every 20 seconds that it has detected something. The recorded clips are now only 3 seconds instead of 20 seconds as it is programmed to do. They’ve added boosters and replaced cameras to no avail. The thermostats do not work correctly. They don’t read the temperature accurately and either don’t turn the unit on or else it runs continuously causing electric bills to be $500-$600. We have had so many service calls it’s ridiculous! Their customer service is awful! They want the customer to pay for all these service calls or fix their own crappy equipment yourself. They constantly remind you that you have a contract and you must continue to pay them. Do not waste your money on these products!

I moved into a new home with an existing contract. The devices are slow and constantly have issues with connectivity and performance. I consider this a breach of contract on the part of Vivint, but they claim the only way to terminate the contract is to pay the total remainder in one lump sum (over $1000). I’m paying $80 a month for a system that doesn’t work, and there is little that I can do to change that. My camera monitoring often goes offline for months at a time and my thermostat does not follow its set program. Any time I have a technician out, they just restart the system and say “it should work a LITTLE better now”.

We have had our system now for about seven months and I can guarantee that it has been the worst decision that we have ever made. System goes off line, cameras go off line to much and now we are experiencing false alarms during early morning hours disturbing my family beyond belief. Our system has been trying to up date since 4/2/2018 without any luck. Have spoken with several customer service reps and managers without any resolution. To make matters worse trying to schedule someone to come out to our home has been a nightmare due to several lies about dates only to have been pushed back after being told that our issue has been elevated to the highest priority only to be lies to once again.

I had their system for many years. Eventually it stopped working because they didn’t support the old equipment on their end. They never notified me and I had to discover this on my own as they kept billing me monthly. They lie and deceive. I refused to pay for a system upgrade they should provide free by the contract if they failed to support their own equipment, however they continued to bill me for a non-working system. They said I was responsible by the contract however the contract had run out long ago under APX and THEY were the ones who defaulted on it. Many phone calls where they lie and won’t stop billing you made me reach out to regulators. My state has an alarm company licensing and regulation branch who I’m working with to resolve this. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had with a large company. Read the reviews here, get ADT or some other company.

My system includes 1 skycontrol, 1 CO detector, 1 smoke detector, 1 motion sensor, 2 window alarms, 3 outdoor cameras, 1 door lock and 1 doorbell camera. Everything worked well for about a week, then cameras starting going offline. I rebooted the system several times for weeks to get them back online, but finally decided to call for tech support. Since that time, I have had 3 technicians out for a total of 18 hours and counting (there is currently a tech at my house. He has been here for 9 hours and still no where close to resolution). This time does not include the countless phone calls to Vivint.
After each tech visit, the problems get progressively worse. My cameras constantly go offline still and now record a blank screen for several hour blocks of time.
Vivint refuses to refund the system, so I am out over $1000. To add insult to injury, they informed me that they will be charging me $50 per service call going forward.

Vivint is behind in Technology. Their Sky Panel can onl y handle 2.4ghz and is not capable of handling 4 cameras. I have had them 3 years and freezing, cameras going offline, door bell camera not working. Ring door bell camera is 5ghz and works faster , need camera is 5ghz and live is faster. VIVINT three years ago was ahead of the game. THEY ARE NOW THE PAST. BUYER BEWARE, Their current panel stinks, they need a new panel that can handle all the changes. There tech’s all have said their panels cannot keep up, their contract says that cameras and other equipment is not guaranteed to work. So cameras don’t work that is to bad they sad.

    Awful experience!!!
Starting from the sleeze-ball salesman (who lied several times to get the sale) to the horrible installation team who wouldn’t leave and come back the next day because it was past 10:30pm and the kids were trying to sleep. But the worst was trying to get out of the contract. Fortunately, on a tip, I made sure they did not complete the installation so that I could get out of it if I did not like it. Even then it was a huge pain! The company up the line lacks integrity. The only person I would trust was the tech who uninstalled everything afterwards, He was the only person who talked honestly about the company.

Do I even have to give them one star??? Almost 6 years ago I signed a contract with them and for a year everything was fine. But then we moved and used our free move certificate. The tech came out in October and didn’t have the right cameras so couldn’t do that. Then while trying to install the thermostat he broke something so our heater wouldn’t work, in late October so it was freezing for several days. Had a repairman fix it and cost almost $100. The tech came out again, but still didn’t have the correct cameras. Finally on 3rd trip had correct cameras. BUT he couldn’t get them working, and they never have been. Our keypad shorts the batteries constantly so we really don’t use it in case it won’t work while trying to get in and we are locked out. Our security system is worse that using a simple key. We asked them to lower our rate for the thermostat that we couldn’t have and they said it was approximate $10 less per month. Both my husband and I spent hours on each phone call trying to convince them to make the rate change but no one could do it. Not sure why it was so difficult. It has been 5 years since that move. No cameras, no key pad and ability to lock our doors and no thermostat, yet we are paying for all of that. They have promised credits on our account, but do actually think they would deliver? Don’t count on it. We tried cancelling our service over a year ago but they won’t stop charging our card. Now our card has expired and they expect we are willing to pay them an extra $200 on top of what we have already been overpaying for the last 5 years.

Worse installation service I have ever had. They gave me the same excuses many other people have complained about. wrong equipment, not enough cable to install cameras, etc.) They always want to reschedule. After 2 days I am calling in the morning to cancel.

I had a security system installed which included flood alert (water in basement). When a waterline broke in our new home the detector was covered in water with no alert sounded. I was informed that up to 4 inches of water may have to accumulate prior to the sensor activating. Thus in the Vivint perfect world 3 1/2 inches of raw sewage was not to be a concern.

So, if you buy the equipment outright, do you still have to sign a long term contract for the monitoring?

Great question Russell. No. The reason for contracts is for them to cover the ‘Free equipment’ upfront, which really they just lease into the cost of the monitoring / contract. If you pay outright for equipment then your monitoring cost should be lower too. Usually this is only an option available if you talk to them over the phone and let them know you want it. Not something you will see available on their website etc. Best of luck.

My uncle has this system. He has been unable to use the 24 hour recording feature of this system since it was installed in July 2016. They have sent out someone to work on it 3 times. Each times they said it works great but he had his life threatened and called cops to show them the video and there’s no video. There’s no way it ever worked because I fixed it today in 5 minutes. The smart drive was plugged into the wrong piece of equipment. After talking to support he finds out that he is down for a 42 month contact instead 24. He was offered a credit of $15 after talking to numerous people. After over an hour on the phone he was refunded more money he is still stuff with the contract he did not agree too.

To anyone thinking of going with Vivint, please heed my advice (and the many others who have gone down this path) and avoid this headache. I wish I would have done my research on this company and seen the negativity (and for a good reason) that surrounds this company.

On a Friday, I received a visit from an agent, and I was told during his visit that we could sign the contract, and make any amendments and/or cancel if we were not okay with the terms. After 20 minutes the tech guy was already at our house installing the equipment. The VERY next day, the agent came back to our house, and we told him we wanted to amend our contract from 60months to 48months. (We actually needed a security system, which was the only reason why we didn’t completely cancel.) He stated sure that was no problem and that he would send over the new agreement. The new agreement never came. I spoke to him another time and he still never sent over the contract. He stopped answering our communications. We spoke to Vivint support and everyone stated, “sure, we can make that change. We will send over the new agreement.” The new agreement never came, and of course, we are now outside of the time window to make adjustments. I have spoken to several individuals on the support team and everyone assures me this change has been made within their system, and everything is all good. Yet, when I call again to check with someone new, our account is once again showing the original terms of the agreement, which means I am locked into paying this horrible customer service company for a full 60months. This service cannot end quick enough. If you are wavering when thinking about getting this service, please DO NOT get it. This headache is not worth it. They are not helpful, and they claim to fix your problem but they actually never do. You will be stuck in a contract you hate, with a company that doesn’t care, because they just want your money. Something will undoubtedly happen with your service or equipment, and you will need to reach out to them and they will not help you.

Trick you in to a contract, equipment dosent work, if you try to cancel it on trial period will lower your bill but when trial period is over they raised up your price and tell you you are in contract. If you try cancel your service ask you for 1000 to cancel. Call them sever time that door bell is not working it took them 1.5 year( yes one and half) to come out to have a new door bell.
3.5 year contract I am stuck, just Wright this review so no one else have to go through what I am going thro.. I try other services but so far vivint by far the worst save you self from 3.5 year of headeack

Signing up with any service or company in a door to door sales situation can be tough. Lots of pressure, hard to know what’s truth and not. Luckily Vivint did implement doing a verification call (that you surely would’ve had to pass) and they record it on record asking you to confirm that you understand the contract length, pay, equipment etc. Unless the rep skipped this (which they can be fired for if they fake it or otherwise forgo it) then you should know what you signed up for. Regardless I hear your concerns about the doorbell frustration! Best of luck getting it all straightened out with them.

I would not recommmend Vivint. If you ever face financial trouble that causes you to lose your home to foreclosure, like I did, Vivint does not work with you at all. They force you to continue paying for a service you are unable to use (we had to move in with my in-laws), pay thousands of dollars to end your contract, or ask you to find someone to take over your contract. This company has NO empathy for their clients whatsoever. Never enlisting their services again and would NEVER recommend them to anyone.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone to get their system it’s been over 6 months too many calls to technical support. When a technician has come out they get there 5 hours later than the window of time they ask you to be home. They want to charge you to send a technician over to fix whats wrong with their equipment and service. The cameras have large lapse of times with no recordings. I actually had things stolen from my front porch and camera didn’t capture any of it. The door lock system doesn’t recognize my pin and mind you I’m the administrator. It recognizes everyone but me. No matter how much I’ve tried working with them nothing gets fixed and I still have to pay and they still want to charge me for technician.

Vivint is extorting me for a service I do not use. I changed companies, had a new panel installed, and called to cancel the service. After getting billed again I called. They claim I entered into a new contract with them until 2020, which is ridiculous since I have service from another company and do not plan to live in this house that long. If I do not pay, they threatened, I will have to pay the entire amount due plus all legal fees which will be extensive. With this threat I’m forced to continue paying them for a service I do not use.

After some confusion from what the sales rep told me and what I looked into I finally signed up. Their equipment is fantastic, pricing is a bit much but smooth functionality across their app. They make it sound like you are going to save SO much money on home owners insurance and electricity from a smart thermostat but you don’t. Don’t sign up to ‘save’ money, only get it if you want it for the protection / peace of mind.

Don’t be like me, a naive 20 year old who stupidly thought that getting this system would be a good idea not knowing that I would roped into a 42 month contract with a horrible company with non-functioning equipment. The sales rep did a very good job on selling the company to me and how great it was, he played on my inability to say no. I wasn’t told till after I had signed the contract that I had a three day period to decide if I liked the system, if I hadn’t asked no one would have told me till it was too late. I thought that the first three days were okay and that it was a reliable company so I didn’t think anything of it, queue a few days after that when the front door lock stopped working. The equipment is always defective, if we want the front door keypad to work we have to change its batteries every week otherwise it just dies. When the power goes out the system should have rechargeable batteries that last a minimum of 8 hours and then when the power comes on they should recharge, they don’t. We got notifications for days afterwards that the battery in the control panel was depleted and had no real way of changing it without calling them. All the company cares about is your money, the only reason they call is if you miss a bill and any other problem you have they don’t really care and don’t give it the effort they should to have it fixed. Their account website is also terrible, I tried to go find my billing information, I even looked in the FAQs and followed the link they provided to find it and it wasn’t there. So pretty much everything about this company and their system sucks. Learn from my mistakes and don’t rope yourself into this company and their product.

Had Vivint installed in both my home and my business 2 years ago. Sales guy gave us the spiel of all the wonderful benefits of why we should switch from our current home security system to theirs. One was that they give you 1 free move per contract. So I called today to have our system moved and was told that’s going to be $99.99. I told her about our free move and she said “yeah the sales people promise that but we don’t actually honor it”. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? They blatantly lie to obtain customers knowing full well that the promises made will never be honored? I obviously was not happy and she said she would give me a “Special” price of $49.99 for the move, which is a great deal for me as the move it a lot of work for a tech – Well then don’t promise a free move! I demanded to speak with a supervisor, which conveniently none were available. She did have another “deal” for me though. We will give you a free move…IF you resign a contract with us. I asked her if she was joking? Why on earth would I ever resign with a company that flat out lies to it’s customers. After much back and forth she did give me my free move…but I have decided this is not a company I want to deal with and will bite the bullet, pay the buyout and never use them again.
I suggest you get every promise your sales rep makes in writing!!

We have spent hours and hours on the phone with them rebooting the system and waiting for them to arrive and fix the system. The cameras work maybe 10% of the time. Their update caused the system to only use the loudest volume when set and disarmed. So when I would get home late or leave early, it woke the entire family up. It lasted for two and a half months and I had to call them to find out of the bug was fixed. When I asked what they were going to do for us for the inconvenience, they said…..NOTHING!! So needless to say….I would not recommend this company.

I went through getting all the security equipment on my own and finding a different monitoring company. The main difference is that the equipment is not connected thru only one App as the Vivint system is. So I actually have four different apps (One for cameras, one for smart door ring bell, one for smart control garage opener and one for the window sensors) which is ending up being a pain in the butt. I may go back to Vivint and pay the extra $25 a month just for the convenience on the smart phone and storing all recorded data on one cloud data center compared to 4.

I’ve been trying to get my cameras working for 3 weeks. I’ve spent countless hours on the phone with tech support. I’ve had 2 service techs come to my house. I’ve swapped out the cameras with new ones. The tech even tried a new camera from his truck. Bottom line, cameras will not record via motion sensor. May possibly be my panel needs to be replaced for a new panel model and new cameras (doorbell camera). The old panel will be obsolete by years end due to not communicating with Vivint towers. I’ve just sent back the 2 old cameras and 2 new cameras. Now I spoke with a customer service manager, who I think hung up on me when I declined his solution. He wants me to renew my contract for another 48 mos and he’ll upgrade my panel & doorbell camera for $499. Are you kidding me? Why should I pay for a camera that is not working at no fault of the user. Why should I pay for a panel upgrade when the panel is becoming obsolete at no fault of the user. Vivint needs to stand behind their product more than having users pay for upgrades. I could understand if I WANTED better equipment or more equipment, but this situation totally falls on Vivint.

Their products are more expensive than any other in the market, they keep mentioned a lot about their service but you can set up an alarm system with all their similar gadgets with at least 30% less and with the same quality. Also they have a 42 or 60 months contract for you to pay for all the equipment. Not bad If you love to have everything under credit, but really would you keep an smart phone, a tablet, a PC/ laptop, maybe not even a smart TV for that long. Also, the sellers are very good, but Vivint does not have enough controls to verify all his promises and you barely have three days to cancel the service without any penalty and also maybe a repercussion in your credit score since you are entering in a five years loan to buy the equipment.

System wise, excellent, very sophisticated and up to date. However, I do not recommend getting involved with them on a door to door level, and if you do, make sure that they don’t sell you with lies. The door to door sales representatives will lie to the bone to sell you and get you hooked on a 5 year contract. He/she may mention that you pay “nothing” upfront and installation and such is ‘FREE’. Next thing you know they withdrew over $400 from your bank account. We had the worst experience with them because the salesrep was not honest from the beginning; it was lie after lie after lie. We so regret canceling our prior security system to go to this bunch of lies and deceit. Now I have to waste my time calling them to get everything straightened out. Better to go through it on your own with a site like this or referral so you don’t get coerced into doing something you unsure of.

      Hey Charles,

You can combine services but you currently don’t get a ‘sweetened’ deal for doing so. It can be nice to have everything through one company and we would only suggest doing Vivint solar for those who know they will be in their home for the next 20+ years. Energy innovation will continue to change as well as practicality of Solar panels (like all technology). At least with a wireless Vivint security system you can update every 3-5 years some of the equipment if it has ‘gone out of style’. The same can’t be done with solar panels. Best of luck,

Seems like they take GREAT care of you when getting on board and installed and then drop the ball. Maybe they spend too much time and money going after new customers instead of keeping up with existing ones. Great equipment and features, not great customer satisfaction (at least for me).

Activation fee was a hit in the face as I was expecting $0-99 and it was $199 but I got a lot of extra equipment so that may have been a part of the reason why.

They don’t over charge which is great. They also installed the day I called and had everything running beautifully. As for the cons, their customer service isn’t the best. I have called about an issue 3 times and it took them 6 days before I got a response on the manner. Not a huge deal but they need to improve on that. Over all I am happy I went with them.

I was in contract with ADT prior to meeting with a Vivint rep. After approaching me at my home, my initial reaction was to shut the door in this guy’s face. But after realizing it was a Saturday, I was doing nothing anyways, I gave the guy five minutes. He went on to tell me about the features and functions that set them apart. Now, I don’t care who you are, you simply can’t be impressed by the things Vivint does. They really have some interesting stuff. I liked the idea of it all and I decided to let him inside so we could talk numbers. That same day, my system was armed and ready to go. I worked with my settings for a day or so and had my system tailored the exact way I wanted. I’ve only had to call in customer support for a couple different things! Besides that, switching over was an easy decision. Can’t wait to see the new stuff coming out. Vivint really is a great company. Happy camper!

Their equipment does seem cool but nothing ADT Pulse doesn’t have and then you don’t have to do the 60 month contract with auto renewal. Not a lot of bad to say about this company but most people that get them feel pressured too from their door to door sales rep.

ADT pulse doesn’t have the door bell camera, a smart thermostat, door locks, or the Amazon echo which now is synchronized to the system allowing you to control the whole thing by voice. Vivint does so I am going with them for these reasons although ADT pulse is a good system not saying that it’s not.

We LOVE Vivint. It has been worth every penny
and we have always had prompt service to fix
anything we need or just answer questions.
Our utility bill is lower and we feel safer being
able to have so much control over our home.

I have had Vivint for 2 years now and could not be happier. The salesman and the installer were kind and very helpful. Just yesterday 3 men came to my door stating they were from Vivint and were doing an upgrade. The asked a few questions and I became uneasy about who they claimed to be. I asked them to leave and one of them asked me for my password. I told him if he worked for Vivint he would know that and asked him again to leave this is when I noticed his ID at the bottom of his jacket and the name of the company was North Star. Checking this out North Star is a door to door company. I have them on my camera and I will be glad to do whatever it takes to put them behind bars if they show up again. They not only pounded on my door but also looked into my picture window and started pounding on it. I should have called the police. What a bunch of jerks!

Thanks for the share Maria! That is crazy about what Northstar did! They are a company based in Orem, UT and compete with Vivint in the door to door sales-force. It is a shame to see such practices happen and typically if found out by the company those managers or sales reps who do that are fired on spot. We recommend calling Northstar Security in UT and reporting this incident as it is a crime and even sending them the footage so they can have authorities investigate. Thankfully Vivint no longer does this same pretense by claiming they are with ADT and giving those customers an upgrade. This is a sad but common practice to get a sale in the door to door sales industry.

Everything has been good so far with Vivint. I got a lot more equipment than is listed on this site for no extra charge. The installation was really quick, employees have been polite, system works as advertised. Not the cheapest around but I’m fine with that.

Good variety and quality of gadgets and equipment is 90% done deal for me. And Vivint certainly doesn’t disappoint in that area. They are the Lady Gaga of the home security world. They have got all the bells and whistles, and then some more. The look on the face of my friends whenever they visit my house is something else and says it all about Vivint.

Quite surprised to see they don’t have a BBB rating. Whatever might be the reason, but Vivint is one of the best as far as my experience with so many security companies in the past goes. I can think of only one name i.e., ADT which can hold its own against Vivint. You talk about their equipment, it’s out of this world. You talk about their service, it’s right on the money. Their pricing is great too considering the value for money their plans offer. Overall, one of the best options currently available.

As we’ve had another security for years, and it’s failed us on a couple of minor things, my wife insisted on switching to a different company. I had heard of Vivint through buddies of mine, made the call, had them come out, and are very happy with the company overall, and my wife feels a lot better.I would highly recommend them.

Gosh!!! Just come to my house and see their equipment. Mind was blown when I first saw their first class gadgets being installed at my house by their engineers. Where the stone age equipment of some companies can make your house look ugly as hell, the fine equipment from Vivint adds 5 stars to the look of the house. And it’s not about the looks only, the equipment are of a very high quality and never fails on you. Their prices too seems to be quite competitive considering the quality we get. Overall, Vivint is better than the best out there. What do you guys think?

Okay, I’m totally in love with the electronic door lock! And my husband would “geek out” over some of the other tech gadgets. Unfortunately, they are a little out of our price range for the time being. Plus, the under-trained, lying salesmen are a big deal to me–like, HUGE! Still, that door lock is a beauty…

Great inside-out of the most glamorous security company out there. One might feel skeptical because of the absence of any BBB rating but as you rightly said, the reason of that is the bad sales program. Ultimately it is the gadgets and equipments which matters the most, and Vivint is surely the king in that. I loved their systems at my friend’s house and might go with them, unless I get a better value somewhere else. Thanks for the review.

You won’t believe me if I tell you that they are one of the best in the business. What’s the remedy then? The remedy is just try them once. They have a slight premium over others, but that’s because of the best in class equipment, decent customer service and ease of installation. You can go with them without any doubt in your mind, Kelly. Best of luck!

I found another company that better suites my needs at a more affordable price. I did enjoy them though and they have a lot of perks if you can afford them.

Agreed! Right from their vehicles to the way they do the installation, and to their extra-stylish gadgets, everything has been done tastefully in Vivint. Absolutely no match. Their too pushy door-to-door sales program way of getting the customers may frustrate some and frankly isn’t required, but the same can’t be said for their product. Guys at Vivint do a good job at each step. I have had no problem with them ever since I signed up with them.

I recommend their security cameras if one is going to purchase a Vivint home security system. It is nice to have all of that intertwined with the smarthome app they provide. Like these reviews state, the price is higher than most other offers but they make up for it with their cameras. Also here is a hint, when you are on the phone play hard to get or upset about a few things and you may get free installation or activation promotion thrown out your way.

I’m so glad I stumbled upon your researched article. My mother wants to buy a home security system and she needs something super secure as her neighborhood isn’t quite a residential one. Is this very hard to use or is it pretty straightforward? She’s not very techie but she manages with a simple UI.

Vivint literally means to ‘Simplify’. Everything they do and create is in effort to make it simple. The UI is very clean and simple and your Mother regardless of age would be able to operate a Vivint security system. If she can’t access the panel they have other tools including new medical pendants (and other things that aren’t Smart phone controlled) that may appeal to her for full control.

I’m not sure that I like the fact that they don’t have a BBB rating. I like to check out the status on there to get good reviews (or not) from there. I normally check out all types of businesses on BBB before I deal with them. Though I am quite glad that they have medical pendants since my mother suffers from seizures and would need to wear one in the house at all times. I’ll have to keep an eye on this company to see how they work out.

I agree with that. I always look for the BBB rating. I know it doesn’t always mean it is great. A company can “pay” for a better rating, so don’t always go by that. I personally don’t know the company but I appreciate the review. Not sure if they are in my area or maybe I just over looked them.

I never knew that companies can “pay” for a better rating either. The BBB is used so often as a gauge for companies and how they are as a business. If the company can pay for a better rating, how could I trust them regardless of the company they are rating?

I actually didn’t know that–I almost just assumed they did, being on this site and being a security company. I choose over quality not BBB rating. Who looks up the BBB rating of a new phone or new computer company before they buy? Probably no one so I don’t see why you would with a security system company.

Good point each of you. BBB rating means the world to some and nothing to others. As Tracy mentioned up top, you get lots of ‘fun’ gadgets and things you won’t with other companies. If lack of a BBB rating bothers you (due to some bad salesman) then we recommend going with ADT or a big name with a high rating.

The starting price is kind of high, but I do like that it goes down to $49 a month after that. It seems like it has some potential. I don’t like that there’s no BBB rating whatsoever, so I’m a big paranoid in trusting this service just yet. I may look more into it in the future, but I have other home security options in mind.

The motion sensors tell you what specific doors are opened or closed. It also has a super easy touchscreen. The feature I thought was the best, was the APP, I can do everything from my smartphone? This totally speaks to the techie in me

Good ol’ Vivint! Ha, they have started to dominate in marketing and now anything with the color Orange I think of Vivint. They did a good job shrugging off the old (APX) and starting with the new. Not a fan of their long contracts but you don’t have to do the 60 month even though that is what they try to sell you on. Ask for the 42 month and they have good starting promotions so they are no longer the costliest to get 😉
