ADT vs eufy 2026: $50/Month Monitoring vs $0/Month Cameras — Which Is Safer?

ADT vs eufy 2026: Full Monitoring Giant vs Budget Local-Storage Cameras — Do You Need Both?

ADT and eufy serve completely different purposes. ADT is a full-service security monitoring company with professional installation, 24/7 dispatching, and decades of brand trust. eufy makes affordable cameras and doorbells with local storage — no monthly fees, no monitoring, no alarm system.

Comparing them is like comparing a hospital to a first aid kit. Here’s when each makes sense — and why a third option beats both.

Quick Comparison

ADT: What You’re Actually Paying For

ADT offers two paths in 2026:

PathEquipmentMonthlyContract
Pro Install (Traditional)Included or financed$45.99–$59.99/mo36 months
Self Setup (DIY)$199–$449 upfront$28.99–$34.99/moNo contract

Strengths: 9 monitoring centers, 150+ year brand, Google Nest camera integration, police/fire dispatch, cellular backup

Weaknesses: Expensive ($1,044–$2,160 over 3 years), camera subscription required for recording, Google cloud privacy concerns

eufy: What You’re Actually Getting

ProductPriceKey Feature
eufyCam S3 Pro$2494K, solar, local AI, 16GB internal
eufy Indoor Cam S350$1294K dual lens, pan/tilt, local storage
eufy Video Doorbell Dual$199Dual cameras, package detection
eufy HomeBase 3$14916TB expandable local storage hub
eufy Entry Sensor$29Door/window sensor — app alerts only

Strengths: No monthly fees, local storage (privacy), excellent camera hardware, strong battery life, HomeKit on select models

Weaknesses: No monitoring, no police dispatch, no alarm siren, Wi-Fi only (no cellular backup), eufy had privacy controversies in 2022-2023 (cloud upload claims)

The Critical Security Gap

eufy cameras record what happens. ADT responds to what happens. These are fundamentally different capabilities:

The Best of Both Worlds: Abode + eufy

You don’t have to choose between security monitoring and great cameras. Abode gives you the alarm system, sensors, and optional monitoring — while eufy cameras handle the video.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use eufy cameras with ADT?

Not natively. ADT Self Setup uses Google Nest cameras. ADT Pro Install uses their own Alarm.com-based cameras. eufy cameras operate independently from any security system.

Do eufy cameras work with Abode?

Not directly integrated, but they work alongside Abode perfectly. Abode handles the alarm/sensors/monitoring while eufy handles video — each does what it does best. Both support Alexa/Google for unified voice control.

Is eufy’s local storage actually safe?

The storage itself is safe (encrypted, on-device). However, eufy faced controversy in 2022-2023 when security researchers found some camera streams were accessible via URLs without encryption. Anker (eufy’s parent) has since addressed the issues and improved encryption. For maximum privacy, disable cloud features entirely.

Does ADT Self Setup require a contract?

No — ADT Self Setup is month-to-month. Only ADT Pro Install (professionally installed) requires a 36-month contract. However, even Self Setup costs $28.99-$34.99/mo, nearly triple Abode’s Pro plan at $20/mo.

Which has better camera quality?

eufy edges out ADT on hardware specs — the eufyCam S3 Pro shoots 4K with solar charging and local AI processing. ADT’s Google Nest cameras are excellent but max at 2K for most models and require a cloud subscription for recording.

Can I add monitoring to eufy cameras later?

eufy doesn’t offer professional monitoring. If you want to add monitoring later, you’d need a separate security system. Abode Smart Security Kit ($199) is the easiest add-on — wireless, no contract, pairs with your existing eufy setup for complete coverage.
