Cove vs Blink 2026: $18/Month Monitored Alarm vs $3/Month Cameras — Sensors, Cameras, or Both? Here’s the 3-Year Cost Breakdown

Cove and Blink serve completely different security needs at similar budget price points. Cove is a monitored alarm system with door/window sensors, a keypad, and 24/7 professional dispatch. Blink is a camera-only system with no alarm panel, no sensors, and no monitoring. One protects your entry points; the other watches them. Here’s how they compare — and a system that does both.

Cove Basic$200-$350$17.99$848-$998
Cove Plus$200-$350$27.99$1,208-$1,358
Blink 3-cam (Plus Plan)$240$10$600
Blink 3-cam (local only)$275$0$275
Abode Kit + Cam 2$280$6$496

Key insight: Cove costs more than Blink but gives you what Blink can’t — professional monitoring, door/window sensors, and police dispatch. Blink is cheaper but can only record a break-in, not respond to it. Abode is the sweet spot — alarm system with cameras, pro monitoring, and no contract for $496 over 3 years.

Where Cove Wins

  1. Professional monitoring: 24/7 dispatch — if your alarm triggers, someone calls police/fire
  2. Real sensors: Door/window contacts, motion detectors, glass break, smoke/CO — actual intrusion detection
  3. Environmental protection: Flood, freeze, and smoke/CO sensors that Blink doesn’t offer
  4. Insurance discounts: Monitored alarm systems qualify for homeowner’s insurance discounts (5-20%)

Where Blink Wins

  1. Visual evidence: Video recordings of what happened — crucial for police reports and insurance claims
  2. Outdoor coverage: Battery-powered weatherproof cameras with 2-year battery life
  3. Deterrence: Visible cameras deter opportunistic burglars
  4. Lower cost: $275-$600 over 3 years vs $848-$1,358 for Cove

The Real Answer: You Need Both Sensors AND Cameras

Cove vs Blink is a false choice. A door sensor detects intrusion instantly (before entry). A camera records evidence (after entry). Ideally, you want both.

Abode solves this:

  • Alarm panel + door/window sensors + motion detector ($199 kit)
  • Abode Cam 2 indoor/outdoor camera ($80)
  • Professional monitoring at $6-$20/month
  • HomeKit + Alexa + Google + Z-Wave + Zigbee
  • No contract, 3-day free cloud clips
  • 3-year total: $496 (cheaper than Cove, more capable than Blink)

FAQs

Can Blink detect when a door opens?

No. Blink has no door/window sensors. It can only detect motion via camera. A door could open outside camera view without any alert. Systems like Abode and Cove use dedicated contact sensors on every entry point.

Does Cove have outdoor cameras?

Cove’s camera options are limited — mostly indoor Yi cameras. For robust outdoor camera coverage, Abode’s Cam 2 or standalone eufy/Ring cameras are better.

Can I use Blink cameras with Cove?

Not directly — they’re separate ecosystems. You could run both independently (Cove for alarm, Blink for cameras) but they won’t communicate. Abode provides a unified system where cameras and sensors work together.

Which is better for apartments?

Cove if you want monitored protection. Blink if you just want to see who’s at the door. Abode is the best renter option — sensors + camera + monitoring + no drilling required.
